Aston & District W.I November 2018 Report

The AGM for Aston and District W.I. took place on Friday 2nd November. Vice President Diane Joslyn presided over the evening. All present committee members were re-elected for office.
Our President's Annual Report was read out in which she thanked all the committee and members for their support for making it another successful year.

A report was given on the CFWI council meeting held on 17th October at the Storyhouse, Chester. The next meeting will be "An Evening with Beth Tweddle" and will be held at Northwich.

The Treasurer gave the report on the financial year and also the PALS meeting concerning Breast Cancer Care and Detection. Joan our Secretary gave the Annual Report and Rose Lomas reported on the Group Meeting which had recently taken place.

Our speaker for the evening was Mr Roger Burgess. His talk was entitled "A Moment in Time". It was a very personal story about finding out about family members who died in The Great War at the Battle of the Somme.
His talk was illustrated with artefacts, some of which were Medals, a Prayer Book and Cigarette Case. He explained that his discoveries began in the attic of his home and gradually his investigations grew and took him much further afield. The vote of thanks was given by Sheila Jones.

The lovely table decoration, created by Glenys Inight, was of poppies which proved most appropriate for the evening.
The Luncheon Club are to meet on Tuesday, 6th November at the Combermere, Burleydam – 12:00 noon for 12:30pm.

Our Walking Group will next meet at 10:00am on Wednesday, 7th November at Overwater Marina.
Our competition this evening was entitled "A Time Piece", the winner being Mary Hignett. The competition trophy was won by Irene Williamson and Margaret Bourne proudly displayed the trophy which the bowls team had won.

Our next meeting will be the Christmas Party on 7th December.
New Members and Visitors are always welcome.

Details can be found on our website – www.astonanddistrictwi.org.uk

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our members.

Glenys Inight
