Two community workers have been presented with outstanding contribution awards by Audlem Special Events Team (ASET).

Retiring duo Ralph Warburton and Paddy Kenshole were praised for their work in organising and promoting numerous ASET events over the years. Both Ralph and Paddy were founder members when ASET was established in 2001, after successfully putting on a bonfire night in 2000 to replace the show previously held in Hankelow. The success of this night gave the team the idea of organising additional events – in and for the village – supplementing all that was being done by the existing organisations.

ASET has since successfully held the Proms in the Park, bonfire nights and festivals of transport each year, as well as working with Crewe & Nantwich Round Table and Santa each year to collect for local charities.

Since its founding, ASET has been able to raise £25,000 for local groups and organisations. Alan Duncan of ASET said: "Paddy and Ralph have worked tirelessly over the years to make all of the ASET events a great success. We will miss their leadership, enthusiasm and hard work. "

On Saturday, June 27, Audlem will be host to stars of London's West End in the Midsummer Music in the Park – an evening of songs from the shows. It is billed as an evening of outdoor musical entertainment for all ages, with picnics, dancing and fireworks. Audlem Festival of Transport will be held on Sunday, July 26, with this year's theme being the 40th anniversary of the moon landings.

The final event of the ASET calendar is the Bonfire and Fireworks Spectacular on Saturday, November 7. For more details contact 01270 811211 or visit ASET's new website.
