Eighteen ladies from the Audlem Art Group travelled on Friday to Art in Action, a huge assembly of art related displays, exhibitions and demonstrations held just outside Oxford.

The attendees are seen here although one member of the group was 'Missing in Action, presumed Shopping' at the time. A member of the AudlemOnline webteam who, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, still fancies his skills at watercolour, also found a spot on the coach.

Art in Action saw Middle England at its finest buying art and materials in vast quantities, activity broken only by expeditions to the Pimms and Strawberry & Cream tents. It runs for four days and provides a magnificent opportunity for artists and craftspeople to display their skill – and much of it was awesome – to a very receptive public.

Artists demonstrated their work in oils, watercolour, acrylic and multi-media – including watercolour painter Jackie Deverereux pictured here who revealed some fascinating techniques to enthralled members of the Audlem group.

Glass blowing demonstrations, sculpture, blacksmiths, jewellery makers, woodworkers and turners, art lectures and much much more filled a massive site whilst the catering saw large areas in the gardens available for out-door eating as the temperature almost reached a blistering 17C before some very welcome rain cooled proceedings down. This encouraged some to a glass-blowing demo so that they could at least see the furnace and pretend it was summer warmth!

The trip was organised by Lynne Smith and she was thanked warmly by Christine Johnson, who leads the Audlem Art Group every other Friday at 1.00pm, and the group members who had enjoyed an instructive and inspiring day at Art in Action.
