When ARS (the Audlem Ramblers Society) set out on their 11-mile hike down the Wye Valley in the Peak District yesterday, they were joined for the first time by a couple from Belgium who have recently moved to Audlem. Their 10-month old son Frederick was with them, carried the whole distance on his father's back.
When the party reached Bakewell in the late afternoon, the rest of ARS stopped walking and took refreshment. Young Frederick, however, clearly inspired by the day's experience, decided that was the moment to start walking! He took his first independent steps between two chairs and to the delight of all, made it safely.
