The next Long ARS walk is on Saturday 9th May in the Ceirog Valley leaving Audlem car park at 8.30 am; bring your National Trust membership card if you have one.

It will be led by John and Kate Down and this is John's description:

This walk should have been Monsal Head, but this is now a flat linear walk along an old railway track (the tunnels are now open) and is also a cycle route. So after discussion it is now proposed that we walk in the Ceirog valley.

The walk around the Ceiriog valley starts at Chirk castle, ample car parking and facilities. It is National Trust but car parking appears to be free, but you'll need your membership cards to access.

It is a straightforward 3-booter circular walk along very quiet country lanes and woodland paths about 11 miles with 1700ft of ascent and descent. Only 3 stiles! Dog friendly although inevitably sheep around for much of walk.

There is a lot to see of interest on this walk: Chirk Castle, Battle of Crogen site, old Lime kilns, Offa's Dyke, and a pair of ducts (a canal aqueduct and a railway viaduct), a fish farm, and for the brave a 400m canal tunnel walk! Torches advisable – easy alternative available for wusses and wimps (including our dog!).

It's about 45 minutes drive from Audlem so 8.30am start from car park.
