A reminder that this month's ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society) walk is this morning Saturday, 13th September. Meet on Audlem Car Park at 8.30am for the trip to The Breidden Hills on the Shropshire and Powys border.
The length of the walk is about 10 miles (maximum) and the total ascent is 2,300 feet (approximately.)
Tony Crowther is leading the walk and describes it as follows: Starting from The Admiral Rodney Pub (80m altitude) going up to walk the ridge to include Bulthy Hill (290m) Middleton Hills – 367m, 325m and 307m – and onwards to climb Moel-y Golfa (403m).
So far we have included footpaths, lanes, bracken tracks, open moorlands, and bridleways. From Moel-y Golfa there is a steep rocky descent followed by forest paths, more lanes, forestry roads before we climb up to Rodneys Pillar (365 metres) with wonderful 360 degrees views.
Our return is along tracks, paths and fields to avoid all roads except 200 yards to return to our start point at the Admiral Rodney pub.
A variety of birds will be seen along with flora and forna. Bring tubs for sloes, blackberries and hazelnuts.
There is one steep incline of approximately 200 metres and one or two steep descents but most of the walk is on well marked paths.
Please bring appropriate wet weather clothing if necessary. Walking boots a must plus food for the day and water.
Dog friendly but (need water – not a lot available).
Approximate walk time is 5 hours with a return to Audlem about 4.30ish. Boot rating: 3/4 and 4**** for dogs.
If anyone wants to travel there directly it's expected that Tony will be at the pub at about 9.20am.
