It's the ARS walk this Saturday. Our longer March walk* is over Brown Clee, Shropshire's highest hill and is organised by Peter and Brenda Kay

This is Peter's description of the walk.

Brown CleeThe walk starts 8 miles south of Bridgnorth and just west of Cleobury North at SO 607 872.

Abdon Burf, the summit of Brown Clee is reached by means of a gentle climb through open woodland on grassy paths. The views are extensive with a particularly good view of Nordy Bank hill fort in the foreground and the Long Mynd on the horizon.

The route descends into Corve Dale on a wide track. Then it's through meadow and woodland to cross the site of the medieval village of Abdon before arriving at Heath and its simple chapel which remains almost unaltered since it was built in the 12th century.

The route passes beside the widest ford in Shropshire to the hamlet of Clee St Margaret before climbing gradually back up the slopes of Brown Clee to a saddle below the summit. It's then downhill though parkland to the start point.

Start time is at 9.00am, meeting up on Audlem car park. Length of the walk is 10 miles. Total climbing is about 1700ft. Grade 3 Boot.

*The next Short-ARS walk is on 27th March and is likely to be a 5-6 mile walk from Market Drayton. Short-ARS is a new idea from ARS consisting of shorter walks than the normal longer walks.
