Next Saturday's ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society) walk on 8th September is organised by Chris Roche and is in Shropshire – this is his description:

We start from the National Trust Car Park in All Stretton (members free parking) climbing up the north side of The Long Mynd to join the The Portway and The Shropshire Way then dropping down along Darnford Brook to Ratlinghope and onto Bridges.

Here there is a nice walkers' pub that serves food and brew their own very fine ales.

After lunch and a couple of pints we gain height again through Coates, Medlicott and up to Pole Bank which is the highest point at 516 metres – fantastic views (on a clear day). We then decend over Hadden Hill to cross the golf course back to the cars.

The walk is 12 miles with a total of 490 metres climbing over 2 ascents, but most of the walk is on fairly level ground, easy walking under foot on good paths, there is no mud but a couple of wet patches and a few stiles.

Although about 12 miles, it is fairly gentle and if you can cope with distance a moderate and pleasant walk with wonderful views. A 2.5 Boot!

There are a lot of sheep about so if anyone needs to take a dog, it will have to be on a lead for some parts of the walk.

Recced it earlier and visibility was amazing. To qualify for the free parking National Trust members need to take their membership cards.

8.30am start from Audlem car park.
