Next Saturday's ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society) walk is a circuit of Lyme Park starting from Higher Poynton.

Our walk will start at the Nelson Pit car park (Lyme Road Post Code SK12 1TH for those that use SatNavs) where there are toilets and possibly the chance of a coffee.

After a stroll along the Macclesfield Canal we start ascending eventually entering Lyme Park and continuing up to about the 400 metre contour. (However we start our walk at about the 150 metre level so this isn't too onerous.)

We circle above Lyme Park but do get good views of the house and grounds at times. We then descend somewhat before passing two reservoirs, and making our way back to the starting point.

The walk is about 10 miles and rates a low 3 Boots on the ARS scale. There are some stiles and a few quite steep and tall ladder stiles in places. When I recce'd the walk last month the beginning was quite muddy.

With regard to dogs, we are in sheep country and there are deer in Lyme Park so close control required – also see comment above re steep ladder styles.

The walk is covered by Ordnance Survey Outdoor Leisure Map 1 Peak District Dark Peak Area.

Poynton is about an hour away so meet 8.30am at Audlem Car Park – Saturday 11th February.

This is, of course, where the BBC filmed Pride and Prejudice and for those that must look, under the photo is a link to that silly man who went swimming with his shirt on!
