The next ARS walk is on Saturday 10th January and is a linear walk along part of the Sandstone Trail.
Meet on Audlem car park at 8.30am

Two years ago, the January ARS walk was along the Sandstone Trail from Bickerton in the south to Beeston Castle in North. This year's January walk is the same distance but from a different perspective being from Beeston to Bickerton. It's a little under 10 miles.

It's a well-known route to many ARS members and is chosen again because it's not too far a drive at this time of short days and it's generally on decent surfaces (unless it freezes over as many will remember a few years ago when it was more like a long-distance skate!).

It's a linear walk so cars will be left at both ends and will require a bit of sorting out on the morning once we know how many turn up. This also adds to the time but with an 8.30am departure from Audlem car park the walk itself should be underway by 9.30am.

After leaving Beeston Castle car park, the route skirts Peckforton hills before ascending Bulkeley Hill and then Rawhead and finally climbs again to the southern section of Bickerton Hill from Bickerton Church past Maiden Castle to finish at the small car park off Coach Road near Duckington.

As long as there's no frost, some stretches could be muddy but this is definitely a three booter at most with no lengthy climbing. Excellent views if the weather is clear.

The walk is led by Bob Cartwright.
