ARS, the Audlem Ramblers Society, made their booking for their trip to Llandudno back in the depths of winter. Little did they know the chosen weekend would feature the finest March weather for many a year.

The thirty three ARS members who headed to North Wales enjoyed sunshine and warmth more in keeping with the French rather than the Welsh Riviera.

Saturday's hikes offered four alternatives:

  • A 17.5 mile circuit in Snowdonia for the youngest and toughest

  • the ever-popular North Wales Coastal Range hike of 10 miles from Conwy Marina over the mountains to Llanfairfechan, returning by train

  • a circuit of the Great Orme travelling out initially on the very first Llandudno tram of the year up on to the famous headland

  • a more local circuit from the hotel that's rumoured to have included Debenhams and M&S.

By popular demand, those opting for the Coastal Range walk, posed at Llanfairfechan railway station for the traditional photograph. The participants change each year but the setting looks remarkably like earlier photos published over recent years on Audlem Online.

Later, tired but content, ARS members, well aware of this weekend's Government strictures on alcohol consumption, enjoyed a half of shandy to re-hydrate and for the more rebellious, just possibly, a small glass of wine with their well-earned dinner.
