Eighteen members of ARS, the Audlem Ramblers Society, tackled a 10.5 mile linear hike from Macclesfield Forest to Hen Cloud in the Peak District on Saturday.

On a very warm Spring Day, it proved a rewarding but testing route with fine views and several high points to cross. The overall climbing was calculated at over 3,000ft as Shutlingsloe and the Roaches, a favourite rock climbing location to the north of Leek, were climbed.

It was thirsty work in such sunny weather and most were delighted to arrive after five hours at Ye Olde Rock Inn in Upper Hulme where well-earned refreshment was taken.

The walk was extremely well organised by Tony Crowther as cars had to be positioned at both ends of the hike. It was, all said, a great day in fabulous countryside in just about perfect conditions.
