Over thirty members of ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society) have enjoyed a weekend away in the Lake District with a variety of walks from the pretty severe to the gentle to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the walking group.

Most of the group stayed at the Youth Hostel at Ambleside which provided excellent and good value accommodation with the Hostel situated right next to Windermere. Some in the party must have felt they were pushing the average YHA age upwards if it were not for the presence of ARS's youngest member, Barnaby, aged 14 months, who evened things out somewhat.

On the Friday everyone headed off to do their own thing during the day and evening – AudlemOnline's editor and friends visited Langdale, hence his quick pencil sketch as the illustration. Despite the lack of talent, he was determined to post it as this is after all the week of the Music & Arts Festival.

Saturday saw most of the group, despite the morning rain, heading off on the 'Coffin Route' taking in Rydal and Grasmere. Some adventurous souls headed upwards onto the fells despite the restricted views because of low cloud while others took in the easier Cruise & Walk option, which involved three ferries and a very pleasant walk down Windermere's wooded west bank.

Organisers of the weekend, Steve and Chris Elliott, had procured an entire restaurant, the Loghouse, for the Saturday night meal where all enjoyed excellent hospitality and a very convivial atmosphere. Short addresses by ARS Chair Christine Johnson and Secretary Jean Stainthorpe commemorated the anniversary and thanked Steve and Chris for all their hard work organising what was a splendid weekend.
