Just days to the deadline -- so check you are registered to vote!

With only a handful of days until the deadline Cheshire East Council is encouraging residents to make sure they are registered to vote.

On May 5th, Voters in Cheshire East will go to the polls for the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) election.

The deadline to register, if you want to be able to vote and have your say in this election, is Monday, April 18th.

Polling cards were sent out to eligible residents towards the end of March. If you have not received your polling card, you should contact the Council to ensure you are registered to vote.

Alternatively, you can also register to vote via the government's Gov.UK website at:
www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Cheshire East Council Chief Executive Mike Suarez, who is the Returning Officer for elections in the Borough, said: "With only a few days to go, time is fast running out to make sure you can take part in the Police and Crime Commissioner election.

"Our message is simple: if you're not registered by April 18, you can't vote. I'd encourage everyone eligible in Cheshire East to act now if you're not already registered to vote and apply online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote."

Ben Brook, head of the Electoral Commission, English Regions, said: "There isn't long left to make sure you are registered and able to take part in these important elections.

"Our research shows that the biggest reason people give for not being registered is moving house, with nearly half of people in England giving this as an explanation. If you're not registered, you won't be able to have your say on issues that directly affect your day-to-day life in Cheshire East."

If you have not received your polling card, ring the Council on: 0300 123 5016.

Remember: registering your vote does not mean you have to -- it just means you don't lose out on the opportunity to do so.
