Ruth Kemble writes: "I am appalled at the parking charges now in place at Leighton Hospital – especially as the parking there is so sparse.

"I would like to suggest that if Wales don't want us, we seriously consider becoming an "on shore" island of Scotland. We were staying in very rural East Ayrshire on Good Friday when we had to call the emergency services at 10pm – the ambulance arrived in 12 minutes and for the whole of that time the person who answered the 999 call talked to my sister giving advice and support and telling her exactly where the ambulance was. He kept talking until the paramedics had entered the house and ended by sending his best wishes – he was in Paisley about 50 miles away.

"This call resulted in a stay in Ayr Hospital which has a huge catchment area and acres of FREE parking. They have very rigid visiting times but even on Saturday and Sunday afternoons there was no problem in finding a place.

I know they don't as yet have free prescription charges but they are in the pipeline and all their toll bridges are now free!

"I do hope that this proposal will be considered when the Village decides to declare UDI!"
