This article has been submitted by Michael Cookson. The editorial team of AudlemOnline, while not necessarily supporting the views expressed, felt that it was sufficiently important to be treated as an article rather than a chatbox entry.

The agenda (see here ) for the forthcoming Council Meeting this Thursday, February 13th, has the following item (24/142)
To receive a report and consider any recommendations relating to the ownership of Turnpike Field
This item is due for discussion excluding the Press and Public. Why?
Who has prepared the report that is being considered?
The field was purchased by the Council for the benefit of the Community. The residents are paying for the Turnpike Field through the Parish Council Precept which is, of course an element of the Council Tax.
In April 2023 the villagers voted overwhelmingly to register the field with Fields in Trust.
The Council approved and duly signed the Field in Trust Deed of Dedication.
Villagers, as volunteers, have given their time and monies free of charge to many projects such as maintenance, car park planning, installation of signs, installation of the boardwalk, organising events, repairs to damaged assets, applying and obtaining grants, preparing walk leaflets and other matters.
Why therefore are the villagers being denied access to a discussion about their field?
To hear what the councillors intend to do regarding any recommendations you are urged to attend the meeting on Thursday.
