Audlem resident Ann Jones is tackling the Wrekin in Shropshire this coming Sunday to raise money for the Cancer Unit at Leighton Hospital. If you would like to support Ann's fund-raising, please give her a call on 811919 or, if you wish, you can send a cheque payable to 'Macmillan Cancer Support' to Ann at 38 Windmill Drive, Audlem CW3 0BE.

Let's hope the weather is kind on Sunday as the Wrekin is perhaps Shropshire's best known landmark, a curious legendary hill that from one direction looks like a mountain, from another it crouches low. From the top, it's said you can see fifteen counties on a very clear day.

It was also the inspiration for Tolkien's Middle Earth in the acclaimed series of books – The Lord of The Rings. Tolkien used to live nearby and drew inspiration from the magnificent Shropshire landscape. So perhaps there's a chance of Ann meeting a hobbit or two on her treck to the top.
