An update on tackling the A525 issue

Mike Hill reports: "It has been some time since the village was advised as to the progress the Parish Council was making with this subject.

"During 2007 we tried a change of approach and presented a case study to our MP Stephen O'Brien, based on Health and Safety and simple Human Rights. By ignoring these issues we argued the Government was deliberately placing Audlem in a very dangerous position, besides denying the residents of Audlem their basic human rights.

"This argument was presented to the Minister of Transport who then took some three months to respond. When he did, it was to advise us that we must follow the age-old system we have been down before. Therefore, being aware of the outcome of where that would lead us, we responded to the Minister advising him he had failed to take into account the context of our presentation which was based on Health and Safety and our Human Rights. We recommended that he should seriously review our request to change the status of the A525 based on that presentation. Failure to do so would lead to our holding him entirely responsible for any accidents and injuries resulting from any accidents.

"That was three months ago and still there's no response. This lack of response from our 'bosses' is something we get accustomed to on the Parish Council. However we do not give up and are now preparing another letter demanding a response. We should add that we had sought legal advice before proceeding with our submission to the Minister.
