Ambulance and First Responders Survey

We understand that the NWAS management was complaining last week about the story run on Audlem Online about the survey now distributed throughout the area. Audlem, Buerton, Dodcott cum Wilkesley and Hankelow Parish Councils are working together to seek residents' views on this vital service.

The grouse from the NWAS was that the wording on the survey was designed to persuade people to vote one way. Those comments were made, we hear, without them having a copy of the questions themselves. So, in case the NWAS is reading Audlem Online today, here are those questions.

We leave it to you and the North West Ambulance Service to judge if there's anything wrong with asking the following:

  • Do you support the Parish Councils' campaign to get ambulance response times to 8 minutes or less when attending life threatening calls in rural areas?
  • Do you support the campaign to get ambulance response times to 19 minutes or less when attending calls which are serious but not immediately life threatening?
  • Do you think that First Responders should attend a wide range of assistance and care of comfort until an ambulance arrives?
  • Should First Responders be trained to deal with falls?
  • Should First Responders be trained and allowed to attend to children under 14 years?
  • Should First Responders be trained and allowed to attend to people with diabetes?
  • Should First Responders be trained and allowed to administer aspirin (heart cases) and pain killers such as entonox (pain relieving gas)?
  • Do you think Cheshire should have representation on the board of the North west Ambulance Service?
Tomorrow, we will be publishing the results of the hygiene inspection of NWAS vehicles by the Care Quality Commission. We hope the NWAS will be pleased that we are taking so much interest in the ambulance service and that local people are so keen to receive a first class service from them.

A reminder that questionnaire responses can be handed in at Williams' newsagents or the Post Office in Audlem.
