AFC Match Report

December 9th

The old moon is dying but shining so brightly as a crescent lying on its back. And close by, the planet Venus is brilliant and full of star dazzle . It still fills me with awe that we can see Venus like this with the naked eye. Only at night and in a clear sky of course. And a few nights ago it was perfect for me as I was out very early as my body clock is still geared to the very small hours of the new day .

Silent night , all the owls seem to be elsewhere.

Sadly a badger lay by the roadside on the approach to the village . Did you know that just under 20,000 of these noble beasts were shot last year -- at a cost of £50 a head. Seems so extreme to me.

But then to the game.

We travel to Winsford, to face team named George & Dragon. Shall we slay the Dragon!! Let's hope so ,as we do need a win after some very barren score lines. Game is played on the Winsford Utd F C ground.

A place much in need of refurbishing. Sad changing rooms and one smelly toilet. Full size league pitch. About 25% larger than ours. Lush surface.

George & Dragon are a quite professional team. With players who have the skills for higher leagues .

They are likely to be champions this season so it literally St George facing the Dragon as far as we, in our lower position are concerned.

Kick off a tad late at 1108.

Then. The slaughter begins. Suffice to say not much to be said for our efforts in the first half. With the sounds of constant traffic as the back drop, play is fast a furious as each side tries to get their testosterone high.

1135: 0-3
1140: 0-4

Half time so spared more hits, Kev Rodgers lays into the players. Result – we do in fact perform better. BUT.

1215: We score! 1-5 as Alan "TOL" Burcea scores
1230 I leave early as needed at my home
