A thought. Listening to early radio 4 and the tweet of the day was that of The Lark. And I set to wondering if the children of today will ever hear the sweet song of a Skylark . Hovering high in the still air of summer. My mind flies back to 1957, when I was courting my Jo . We set off on a very hot day on our bicycles -- no car in those days -- and rode into the county of Thornton, near to Seaforth of Liverpool. I recall us lying in a meadow , with the air filled with the buzzing of the bees and the drone of flies. And the dragon flies and their magnificent translucent wings. And over our heads the skylark in full sweet throat. A magical day in my life , as Jo and I lay there . Soaking up the sun .

And talking of bees, I recently was given some honey that Nicky Dakin had bottled from her 4 million bees. I have been eating it on my morning toast now for two weeks, and I have to report that all the arthritic discomfort in my finger joints have gone!! The magic of that wonder substance- Honey. And all so so natural. I heartily recommend all to use it.

But to Match Day . And to our game on Sunday. A very sombre day. The car park packed as folks came to attend the Remembrance service at St James .

The bells ringing out across the village. The new Union flag atop the tower.
What a village we do have . Or a Town, as many older residents say it should be called.

Football.

We face Broadhurst F C of Northwich. We two are the most distant apart of all the teams in the Sunday League.
A good group of the team's supporters here at our invite to sample the grub after the game .
Referee is Mick Costello -- fair and allows the game to flow .
Our turn out is sufficient , bolstered in the new signing of a striker with good form in the person of Kevin Beresford .

11:00 and all gather round the centre circle and observe the 2 minutes silence . And observed impeccably .
Off we go on the whistle and frantic play as both sides seek to gain an advantage.
First chance to us . Slanting sun in the eyes of their goalie.
1st corner to them. No gain.
Play back and forth but no shots on goal as each cancels each other out .

11:30. Still no real shot.
Mark Parker comes off -- suffering from a very heavy night out on Saturday. New man Kevin Beresford on. Immediately puts himself about with fine running.
Blue skies and a really lovely day . Language a tad ripe by our opponents as they become more frustrated . We are playing well -- and as I say that I wonder ? have a put a hex on the team.
Referee warns Kev Rodgers over a somewhat fierce tackle.

11:46, And Beresford sends in a fierce shot -- saved by the goalie. First real attack on goal.

HALF TIME
Power brief by Kev Rodgers. And off we go

11:48 1-0! We Score!! Ben Spruce puts it away after a fine pass to him by Kevin Beresford . Ben is our top scorer.

11:52 2-0. Great feed by Will Cork, met by Kev B and he scores on his debut!

12:03 3-0 Real football as we pass the ball man to man 6 times and with Kev B passing to Ben Spruce -- who slots home his second goal.
What a wonderful feeling! They beat us 3 -1 last August.

1210 3-1 A scramble after a set piece free kick and they score as the ball is fumbled.
Déjà vu but in our favour.
12:30 and a vicious foul on Kevin B . Rakes the shin bone on his scoring leg. Referee Red Cards the player . Kevin subbed.
Thomas Capewell, our skipper, bravely stops what would have been a goal! Phew!

12:41 And Joe Benson sends in a fierce shot. Did it hit the crossbar or was it seen flying over the Shroppie Fly!!

Game over . A very happy end to what has been a very happy week for me. Win on the 4th . Win today -- and a medal in between !
All off to The Bridge for Chips and Nuggets. In good humour. Do really respect Broadhurst management . Sad bit was their goalie petulantly booting march ball over houses in his distress. Told their manager to castigate him. Rather than to report him to the league for bad sportsmanship . Luckily Joe B found the ball in a garden.

Man of the match awarded by opponents to Kevin Beresford .

Next game is Versus Brighton Belle F C of Winsford -- a cup tie away
