Football – dangerous to noses

Musing as I do whilst preparing all for our next game, I had Classic F M on via my Alexa and "Spiegal im Spiegal " was being played . A haunting piano piece . And it set me thinking of the a word "Spiegal" . German for Mirror.
And such a difference to our word . As with many others
So . Welsh for mirror = Drych. French = Miroir. Spanish = Esperjo . Etc. I repeat myself -- Fascinating to wonder how words evolve over the centuries. We have obviously taken ours from the French .
But where on earth did the Welsh get theirs from . Celtic languages ? Who knows .
An exercise for my brain . .
Out to the Town Hall to clear up after the highly successful Dinner Dance of last night -- to the favour of ADCA , Audlem and District Community Action. Caring for the elderly and needy of our community .
Off to the COOP for the gorgeous croissants .

The Divisional Cup .

And as they say , once more into the breach as we face Winsford Over F C in a cup match .
We play this at home and the playing field looks quite fair and well drained . The recent sun has done the grass a good tonic so will make for a good passing and soft landing in a tackle

Kick off . referee Ed Weetman gets us under way . Sun shine bright . Cool air soon dispersed .
Fair turnout of the players for us so missing top scorer Nick Gregory . And play maker James Craig .
Clock changing to British Summer time seems to have been no troubles in rising .
Usual mass of testosterone as fast pace of play by both sides .
We play in our home kit of red/black. Winsford in yellow and blue -- Ukraine's colours as it so happens .
Manager Kev Mort plays , his first start of the season .

11:15 Corner to Winsford. Average age much younger than us. Very fit and full of running .
I wonder if it will be a game of no prisoners taken ?
Corner to us. First of the game. Close to a score. No gain , but then a ball by Ben Walker is met by Will Cirk, who threads the ball to Andrew Betteley .And he scores !

A good start
11:22 Pace of the game is so fast as opponents really on a fast pace. Tackle after tackle as each side presses hard
11:25 Wham. Defence opened up and WFC score

WFC player down after a tackle. A few minutes stoppage as he recovers.
Free kick awarded to us after another fierce tackle, followed by yet another as Andrew Beco Betteley is taken down.
Then they score again

Behind then, so better play needed
Their number 11 and number 8 really good front men. And WFC goalie has very safe hands .
Half time . Long sideline talk and on we come again for the second half .
Winsford truly bossing the play.
Dan Rooney floored by hard tackle. A situation that will feature so much in this game .
Sub as Sam Morgan comes off and Paul Bowker back after his ban .
12:03 We concede a penalty!

Paul Bowker floored by hard high kick. Nose is a mess. Possible fracture and he comes off. Face so bloody . Stefan Kotowski on.
12:25 fast run up field and WFC score again

Bossing the whole play and so full of running.
I did think as we kicked off, a game of no prisoners taken. And by golly so true a fleeing
Not used to be so outplayed
So. Out of the cup.
We have two more league games to play and the our season is over.
