Adderley lights up for Christmas

The village of Adderley in Shropshire, located 2.5 miles from Audlem, switched on its Christmas lights on Friday 4th December 2020.

Villagers took part by decorating a window with a Christmas scene, festively lighting up their garden, or making a decoration for the village 18ft Christmas tree.

Prior to the switch-on there was a Santa-led procession through the village with the help of four of his specially chosen elves.

The events replaced the annual carols 'round the village and post-carol service get-together in the Village Hall, which were cancelled due to Government Covid restrictions.

Iain Wilson, a member of the organising committee, said: "2020 hasn't been a good year but we didn't want to let it spoil our Christmas in the village. Therefore, it was decided to bring everyone together to feel like a community and this event provided something for everyone."

Adderley Parish is one of the largest in Shropshire stretching from Audlem in Cheshire to the border with North Staffordshire. This rural Parish with a small population has a vibrant agricultural base but sits within four miles of the market town of Market Drayton.

Adderley boasts beautiful, unspoilt countryside through which runs the Shropshire Union Canal making its way through the Adderley locks to the Audlem flight on its way into Cheshire.

The Village has a grade 1 listed Church, St Peters, a village school and a busy Village Hall and championship Bowling Club.
