Have you got four hours in the middle of a Thursday?

You may already know about ADCA and how we run clubs and activities for older people and carers on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

But what happens on a Thursday?

Thursday is when YOU might have a few hours to spare to contribute to ADCA's good work!

Well...

.

All about the Thursday Club

This club is rather different from our other clubs. It is a social support club specifically for people 'living with dementia'.

That is, they might be

  • caring for someone who is experiencing dementia
  • experiencing dementia themselves.

The club is led by Laura Stevenson, ADCA Carers & Dementia Support Coordinator, and is open in Audlem Public Hall Annexe between 11am and 2pm on a Thursday.

The prime objective of this club is to make it possible for someone experiencing dementia to come to a club along with the person who is caring for them, and for both to be able to enjoy themselves and find support (as well as a light lunch!).

Many of the activities can be enjoyed together (including the lunch).

In addition, there is a dedicated space where the person experiencing dementia can take part in other enjoyable activities with support from trained volunteers. This gives the person caring for them a chance to relax and find mutual support among others who are in a similar position to themselves.

Activities may include games, music, painting, drawing, modelling, reminiscence sessions, singing, dance and any new ideas that have been put forward.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for friendly, warm-hearted, down-to-earth, patient, calm and reliable people who feel inspired to help us with this, and who are willing to attend specific training in dementia awareness and in how to deal appropriately, comfortably and safely with someone experiencing dementia.

You will also get all the other induction training we give to ADCA volunteers.

We won't be asking you to 'jump in at the deep end'!

If you think YOU might be able to help, please call Laura Stevenson, ADCA Carers & Dementia Support Coordinator, on 07376 070586or email her: laura.stevenson@adca.org.uk to find out more.
