ADCA Carers nearly got fired!

A merry band of carers, staff and trustees, 12 of us in all, went along to the recent Carers' Choice Awards in Sandbach to face what was a real 'Dragon's Den' of an ordeal to bid for a further grant towards running our carers' services. The good news is that we obtained a grant of £9,360 and a big fat cheque to show off with.

The not so good news is that all 13 organisations present had to do a 5 minute presentation as to why the carers present should vote for us to get a grant! It's called 'participatory budgeting'! So Celia, Jill and Roger from ADCA Carers Group tried to do a persuasive 5 minutes describing what we planned for the future, thinking at the time that we should have worn lycra or had more glitter in our hair. We then had to wait while votes were counted and the results were announced in descending order. ADCA scraped in 8th out of the 10 organisations who obtained funding, much to our relief. It was worse than a job interview!

Grateful thanks must go to the staff at Cheshire East Carers' Hub for organising the event and for giving really good support to local carers' organisations. Also to Cheshire East Council for continuing to support the allocation of grants to carers' groups who organise support and carers' breaks in local areas.

So ADCA will be able to continue to organise a range of local breaks and activities for carers in the coming year, as well as providing individual support and advice to carers.
