Summer planting
You will be pleased to hear that the ADAS Committee has decided to fund summer planting this year but only in the centre of the Village.
Assuming that we are able to run the Big Switch On and Carols in the Square events we envisage that we will have a deficit of £1,000 this year ( this assumes a Parish Council grant of £500 towards the Big Switch On).
However, we believe that we should, as a minimum, try and brighten up the Village Square and progress with some summer planting which will increase our deficit to £2,000
The area to be planted covers:
Boots to Church steps -- 3 small tubs, 3 large tubs and 5 troughs
Centre of the Square -- 5 large tubs
Outside the Lord Combermere -- 3 large tubs and the long bed
Outside the shops from the Deli to Tressiders -- 6 tubs
Williams Newsagents already maintain their own tubs
We will be leaving bulbs in place and replacing some compost. We expect to plant around 450 plants this year rather than the normal 2,200. There will be no hanging baskets.
Several residents have already indicated that they would like to plant and maintain tubs outside this central area. If you would like to 'adopt' a tub near you please contact Neil Goodyear for further information ( neilgoodyear@me.com or tel. 07564 243996)
Also, if you would like to make a donation towards the planting, there is a donation box in Williams Newsagents or you can donate online using the following link: here
Due to the Covid19 situation ADAS will not be making a subscription envelope collection this year.
Finally, the planting will take place on Thursday 4th June -- meet by the Buttermarket at 9.30am. Please bring waste bags and hand tools.
Obviously, the planting will take place following strict social distancing rules
All volunteers most welcome!
