It was a perfect crisp winters evening, a record crowd assembled in the centre of the village for the Annual ADAS big switch on

The Audlem lass transported Santa to the wharf whence he made his way to the square in the village.

The Pupils of Audlem St James School sang beautifully on the church steps, and Santa took his place in the grotto, here he patiently chatted about Christmas hopes and presents to all the wonderful children that queued excitedly to visit him.

The shops were busy and there was a festive atmosphere all around.
This fantastic, free and unique event was a resounding success and was enjoyed by old and young alike !
This amazing event wouldn't have been possible without the following

  • A special thanks to Angela and Graham Allison for donating the big tree.
  • A big thanks to Ceri Parsons and Phillips Butler for sponsoring the big switch on.
  • Richard Furber for transporting the big tree to the village square.
  • Johnathan Gleave for erecting the big tree with his Manitou.
  • Pete Holiinshead for cutting down the big tree , placing and dressing it.
  • John Lawrence for the use of his cherry picker and dressing the big tree.
  • Andy McClintock (Audlem Property Services) for picking up the small trees from keele.
  • Linden and Heidi Huckle for the use of the barn to dress the small trees.
  • Martin and Christie Sullivan for the use of their garage as Santas Grotto.
  • ASET and members for the use of their equipment and time.
  • Audlem Lass and team for delivering Santa to the Wharf.
  • Nigel Mottershead for delivering ASETS barriers.
  • Andrew Smith for many hours spent ensuring the small trees were erected
  • and working.
  • Dave Pudney for so many hours to ensure the evening was a success for the traders late night opening.
  • The RNLI for candle floating on the canal and ensuring the wharf was safe for the villagers.
  • ADAS/AIB committee members for organising and committing their time to the event.
  • And of course to SANTA.

So how did a great event come together?
Here is a little summary of the hours.
Mike Haines and Phil Baker checking/preparing the cables, thank you
Bill Consterdine and Mike Hill setting up and taking down the PA system and grotto.
234 hours spent by ADAS committee members across a number of activities.
54 hours picking up small trees and dressing
26 hours cutting, transporting erecting big tree
50 hours erecting small trees around village
52 hours delivering barriers , setting up grotto, checking , fixing cabling
48 hours on BSO day setting up buttermarket PA system, switching on small trees and marshalling the crowds.
4 hours taking down the grotto and barriers.

None of the above would have been possible without the volunteers who willingly gave up their time to make this event happen and ensuring the village looks even more wonderful this festive period.

Thankyou. From ADAS
