ADAPT

12 years ago I was one of a small group of villagers who met up to discuss our concerns and fears about the future of our planet. We formed ADAPT with the aim of raising public awareness as well as encouraging changes in behaviour and ways of living to have less of an impact on the environment in order to protect our world for the future of our descendants.

Because of Media coverage, these days, many people are more familiar with the issues relating to the Climate emergency, pollution, depletion of our natural resources and threats to the natural world, so now there are more local people who know what ADAPT is about.

'ADAPT' stands for 'Audlem and District Acting Positively for Transition . We are about 'Transitioning' to a lower carbon community and reducing our impact on the environment and the natural world.
We have sub groups within ADAPT focusing on Food, Energy and Transport . At the moment the Food Group is the most active meeting once a month. As well as chatting over coffee and cake we try to promote producing and buying food locally, swap gardening and cooking tips, search out recipes, plan garden visits and organise our weekly market, apple pressing and other events held under the Buttermarket in the village.

I think that we can all say that we have made new friends and had a lot of fun and we do believe that we can make a difference!

Collectively, all of us can make that difference. Our individual actions will combine to substantially reduce the carbon footprint of Audlem and District -- a fantastic contribution by our community to achieving the UK's net-zero greenhouse gas emissions target.

If you are interested in joining us please get in touch and pop along to one of our meetings or call for a chat at our produce sales under the Buttermarket on Saturdays from 10am-12noon starting late April (watch Audlem online for details).
