ADAPT Saturday Market. Saturday 20th September Lord Combermere Carpark.

Well--- I have never seen my weeds and grass grow so fast- curtesy of the mild and muggy weather and those catch you out showers. -Forecast says no rain but it does.

Thankfully the fruit and vegetables are making the most of it and we have plenty of beans, apples ,pears, damsons and plumsI have just collected the apples from a special variety called Kingston Black, they have the reputation for making the finest cider you can get. There s a twist in the story as--- this year they are not sharp, small and astringent, but due to the marvellous summer, they are large, and sweet. Their sweetness will help with fermentation, so the jury will be out until tasting in the Spring of 2026.The community Apple Pressing last week went without a hitch and another one is planned for the 11th October.

Thanks to the Methodist Chapel, ADAPT volunteers and customers how helped it go with a swing. We shall give our trusty Gazebo an airing for the Market this week on the Lord C carpark. Other produce on the Market this week include tomatoes, courgettes, eggs, apple juice and honey. We have an excellent choice of preserves:-Jumbleberry Jam, Orchard Jam, ( special recipes) Blackberry Jelly, Crab Apple Jelly and a choice of Lemon or Orange Marmalade. 3 Types of Chutneys Courgette, Beetroot and Orange, and Plum. Cakes will be: Victoria sandwich, lemon and sultana teabread and chocolate hob-nobs.It s a good idea to get strawberry plants established for an early crop next year. We have some on the Market. Hope to see you there, come rain or shine-10am till noon at The Lord Combermere Car Park.
