Market1

The earliest Autumn frost I can remember was this week. I took a walk down the veg patch to see what was left standing. Gone has the Pumpkin plants and closely followed by the squashes , marrows, rhubarb and French beans. Those canny gardeners who have sheltered spots, poly-tunnels and draped fleece- well done and you might get a few more weeks cropping from your more vulnerable plants. The deluge from last weekend has topped up the water butts which dried out months ago. Rain water is better at keeping plants alive than tap water.

Runner beans have survived, so they will be on the market this week, along with a few courgettes, a choice of apple varieties, free range eggs, spinach, plums, honey and apple juice. If I can find some bottles, there will be some apple vinegar.

Cakes this week will be Cherry Bakewell and Rosehip Syrup cake.

There will be a fine array of preserves on display ---all our members are at it. Come along and see if anything appeals.

There should be some bedding plants and strawberry plants as well.

10am till noon on the Lord C carpark Audlem
