During the course of the ADAPT Food Group event “Up the Garden Path” , being held on the Methodist Church car park on the 27th August,  the Energy Group will be launching the Energy Club with a display of publicity material and attendance of the group's representatives.  The event is being held between 11.00 am and 3.00 pm.

The initial objective of the Energy Club is to encourage and empower people in our community to take advantage of the government sponsored initiative to increase the up-take of Photo Voltaic technology.  There is a growing number of homes in the community which have had either Solar Thermal and/or Photo Voltaic panels installed on their roofs.  We hope to encourage more to follow suit by taking advantage of the experience of existing owners and the technical expertise within the community.  We seek to do this by identifying reliable and competent installers, by references from existing owners and pre-qualification procedures.  The purpose is to gather together groups of people intending to install solar panels and to negotiate discounts on their behalf for bulk purchasing.

The longer term objectives of the Energy Club is to encourage a greater degree of energy self sufficiency for the communities in  Audlem and district, as a guard against the probability of increasing costs and growing unreliability of international energy supplies.  Achieving the objectives is entirely dependent on the participation of the community.  We are fully aware that after many decades of reliable and almost unlimited access to a variety of energy sources the contemplation of a reduction in our capacity to draw on these in the future could be a cause of anxiety.  However there are many options open to us and much of the expertise already exists within the community to make a significant start on evaluating our options.

If you would like to know more about benefiting  from installing solar panels at a reduced cost, sharing your experience or are interested in longer term sustainable energy supplies, come along on the 27th August when you will receive a warm welcome.
