Local residents and others in the village centre were subjected to a traumatic ordeal over lunchtime today when four horses pulling a trap suddenly bolted. At one point two horses at the back were being dragged along the road causing much distress to those watching who were powerless to do anything to help.

Initial reports suggest that the two people involved weren't seriously injured, as the trap came to a stop by the post office. The horses were also seen being walked away from the incident. Possible damage to property and vehicles is still being assessed. A local vet was on the scene soon after the incident and police and ambulance crews continue to help out.

Despite being deeply upsetting for those involved, it would seem that the event could have easily been a great deal worse.

More information will be added to this report as it is made available.
