A run of festive Spirit at Overwater Marina Santa Canter

Overwater Marina was transformed into a scene of festive cheer last weekend as more than 30 determined Santas braved the drizzle to take part in the Santa Canter, a fun run or walk, raising over 500 for Nantwich and District Riding for the Disabled.

Participants donned festive outfits, spreading Christmas spirit around the marina as runners dashed, jogged, and even strolled their way to the finish line – some even cantered the course on a hobby horse.

In true festive fashion, every runner was rewarded with a shiny medal to commemorate their effort and generosity and there were delicious mince pies and mulled wine served to all, helping participants and supporters alike to celebrate their fundraising success.

Nantwich and District Riding for the Disabled is a local charity dedicated to providing therapeutic horse-riding opportunities for children and adults with disabilities. Through tailored riding sessions, the organisation helps to improve physical health, confidence, and emotional wellbeing, giving participants a chance to develop new skills and enjoy the benefits of spending time with horses.

Their work is made possible by the commitment of volunteers and the generosity of the community, and the impressive sum raised on the Santa Canter will help to make a difference. Organisers expressed their gratitude to everyone who took part, donated, or cheered from the sidelines, noting that the turnout and enthusiasm showed the very best of Christmas spirit.

Plans are already underway for next year’s canter, and organisers hope to see even more Santas on the start line, whatever the weather may bring.
