A poem for today

Poppy day.

And when the war was over after giving all they had done.
Returning home to this fair land found the battle must go on.

So many of them broken not just physically but of mind.
How could they be forgotten and the government be so blind.

Look around ye all you people our troops were plain to see.
We needed them to protect us they fought for you and me.

Show your poppy with pride enough blood has been shed.
Wear it today if only for those injured and the dead.
