Audlem and District History Society

The next scheduled talk for Audlem History Society will be held at the Scout and Guide Hall on Thursday 20th April, 2023, at 7.30pm.

The speaker this time will be Ian Jones, a long-standing member of the Society, and also a Committee member, and the talk is entitled "A Minstrel in Staffordshire".

The "minstrel" concerned is Wilmot Martin, a cousin of Ian's mother. Wilmot did numerous charity work over many years, including concerts and organised seaside trips for poor children, raising the equivalent of £2 million in today's money for charity.

Wilmot lived north of Stafford, dying in 1963. Of local interest, Wilmot's grandfather was actually the miller at Audlem old mill.

Ian is bringing along various artefacts, and his talk will be illustrated by numerous photographs.

Another fascinating evening is in store, and everyone is very welcome to attend, including visitors (please pay £3 on arrival).
