50 YEARS OF THE SHROPPIE FLY

As a boater I've read Waterways World since it was first published in 1972. As a sad soul, I've kept every edition. Yes, that's well over 600 magazines, most of them in annual binders! The time will come when I need to find a new home for this archive. So I've been taking some of older years from the shelf, blowing off the dust (literally!), and seeing how the world of waterways has changed in over 50 years.

In the March 1975 edition I came across this news item, and also the advertisement. So that's how it all started. (Credit to Waterways World for photos)

No doubt local historians and drinkers will be able to piece together the changes that have occurred at The Fly over the last half-century.
