The 200 Club!

Less than 5 months on from the opening of the Annexe, membership of Audlem Community Gym has exceeded 200. This is way in excess of anything we anticipated, and we have been kept very busy arranging induction training and setting up joining procedures. However, despite the large membership, the gym, which is open 15 hours a day, is rarely over-crowded, and indeed is often empty.

So why has it been so popular? Members say to us 'It's wonderful to have a gym in the village', and 'You have all the equipment I need for a full stamina and strength work out'.

But it's more than just convenience, the culture has changed. From being the preserve of fitness fanatics and body builders, working out in a gym has gone mainstream. Over 8 million people in the UK have gym membership, and every university campus has a huge gym well used by students. In a recent interview on Radio 4's Today programme, an Army Chaplain said combat troops in war zones only saw 4 places: Their deployment zone, where they ate, where they slept, and the gym.

Young members

Please note – we cannot accept under-16 members, and there are new Safeguarding rules where under-18s are concerned, which have been introduced by the Charity Commission following a series of high-profile cases.
