Film Night

We're getting stuck in to our Autumn programme of activities now, so last week was our first attempt at doing a film night in our newish venue, the Public Hall.

Big thanks, as ever, to the Baptist Chapel for the loan of the trusty screen that we used when we were based down the road. This worked well tucked at the end of the hall where the ceiling, and the lighting, are lower, with a small cluster of chairs arranged with as much order as we could muster.

Pixar and popcorn

We opted for a DVD of Pixar animated short films this time with an ongoing supply of freshly made popcorn as accompaniment. The popcorn always goes down well and usually manages to keep at least a dozen bums on seats for up to an hour or so! Feedback was mixed for the short films idea but there were some that really seemed to appreciate it- twas ever thus.

I think until we relent and show 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2016' (it doesn't exist btw – don't want to alarm anyone) we will always meet divided opinion on what is good and what is not, but that's ok we'll just keep on trying new things. It's often the unexpected stuff that proves to be an unlikely hit, like the Bingo Calling App we used once with the decidedly saucy voice.

Playground games

This week at Youth Club we are revisiting some classic playground games. Monique plans to pass on some Cat's Cradle genius courtesy of her French born mother, so expect the Eiffel Tower at the very least, and I hear her Pompidou Centre is transcendent.

There is also talk of conkers, giant skipping ropes and jacks, to name but a few. Gin, as usual, is conker supplier. She came up with some championship specimens last year- all of them ready strung for action with the help of her grandson I believe. A spot of child labour is always heart warming to see. It all sounds proper simple, but we don't under estimate the power of simple here at Youth Club.

FINALLY AND IMPORTANTLY

Gin is stalwartly taking a table at the ADAS table top sale this Saturday 15th October in order to raise a few bob for Youth Club. The event is on at the Public Hall from 10am to 1pm and is free entry.

Pleeeease, if you are knocking about the village on Saturday morning picking up a paper, walking the dog, getting a coffee, going for a run, buying some milk, starting a new centrist party to occupy that now tumbleweed strewn landscape, or just cogitating on a bench somewhere DO come and support us and have a nose. Gin likes nothing better than to chew the fat on matters as varied as weather, Morris Dancing and bacon curing methods during the reign of William the Conqueror.

She might even sell you a cooking apple or five and read your runes into the bargain. Go on.

Youth Club is on every Wednesday in term time from 7.15pm until 9pm at the Public Hall. £1 weekly subs and no membership necessary. Tuck shop, free drinks and free fruit and an activity each week if you want to join in or just socialising with your mates if you prefer. Look forward to seeing you.
