It feels like Youth Club are leaving 2016 on a high point. Last week's fundraising quiz at the Lord Combermere raised in excess of £700 for Youth Club! This is an astonishing amount and we were bowled over by the generosity of all the quiz goers on the night.
Probably my least favourite thing to do is to call upon village businesses to support the Youth Club cause, however worthwhile it may be. I know this kind of request is just in the nature of things and it is all part of the fabric of village life, but I also feel acutely that ours is one of many such requests made across the year. With this in mind I wanted to express, on behalf of Youth Club, how grateful we are for the tremendous and universal support that came forth from the Audlem high street. If I'm honest I was moved by the open hearted and willing spirit I encountered from all the traders I approached. It is no small thing that you do and we value it highly. So thank you for making the quiz night raffle and auction a bumper one that almost, not quite, managed to stretch even the irrepressible energies of Ralph Warburton.
Mentions in despatches must also go to Ralph himself for this year making Youth Club the beneficiary of his most excellent quiz. To Alan and Jo at the Lord C for allowing us to harangue their customers for the night and to many kind individuals who donated prizes for the raffle and auction.
On a housekeeping note there was an unclaimed prize...me! Blue ticket 331-335 won four hours worth of Graphic Design from my own fair hand. So if that person knows who they are and would like a bespoke, poster, flyer, party invitation or similar delight then do get in touch. My number is at the bottom of the piece.
To matters less lofty but nonetheless important, Youth Club last week. We were doing our favourite Blue Peter impression with a big table full of random bits and pieces that we turned into Lavender bags and Christmas cards (thanks to Eleanor Liles for the fabulously pungent Lavender).
This Wednesday 21st is Youth Club's Christmas party and is the last session of the year. If you were at Youth Club last week you will have taken home a slightly cryptic piece of paper bearing the words 'sweet' or 'savoury'. If you can bring along a food item that fits your designated food group that would be a very good start to an eclectic Youth Club Christmas buffet. We'll be topping it up with some other goodies as well.
There will be some devilish games involving flour and the newly devised pass the parcel shuttle run plus all the old chestnuts including musical chairs (however old you are that is still an hilarious game). Hope you can make it.
Audlem Youth Club meets every Wednesday in term time at the Public Hall, 7.15pm -- 9pm. £1 subs on entry, no membership necessary, Year 7 upwards welcome.
All queries to Kate on 07789 915940.
Happy Christmas!
