January 2018 sees the Wrenbury & District Model Railway club celebrate its 4th birthday. Having increased membership since formation they are aiming to encourage new interest in the hobby – officially described as the second most popular pastime in Britain during the Channel 4 series 'the Biggest Little Railway in the world'.
With more modest plans the Wrenbury club is extending its 00 layout using modular boards which measure just 48inches x 20, ideal for anyone short of space at home but when linked together create a much larger layout. Two of these boards have also been constructed for the Brine Leas school which will mean whenever they visit they can link their 2 boards to the club layout.
To encourage youngsters to develop their interests a new membership has been created for a parent and child, reducing the cost considerably.
Additionally the club will hold its 5th Open Doors event on Friday the 29th & Saturday the 30th of June and attend the Societies event in Nantwich Centre 21st July. A Toy & Train event at the Crewe Heritage Centre is also in the diary on the 10th of March.
At the Open Doors event plans are under way for demonstrations of 0 gauge locomotives and a garden railway using live steam in addition to visiting 00 gauge layouts. These will run alongside the clubs own N & 00 layouts and 2 members N gauge layouts.
All plans, events & contact details are on the web site (click here).
We have meetings every Wednesday 7 'til 10 in the village hall in Wrenbury CW5 8HG, visitors are always welcome.
