Jean White, Clerk to Audlem Parish Council, has received a number of objections addressed to Audlem PC regarding the wind farm at Poplar Lane. Jean has forwarded them but letters should be sent directly to North Shropshire District Council (Development Control), Edinburgh House, Wem. The planning reference is 08/00813/EIA (Wind Turbine Development @ Poplar Lane) and the closing date for applications is 6th June.

The proposed wind farm is near Knighton and could, it is said, be seen from Audlem cricket ground. There is a Forum discussion that has just been posted on this proposal. 'Anon' Kay suggested the Forum and wrote: "Until someone very kindly knocked on my door to explain that there is a proposal for 7 x 360ft wind turbines in the vicinity of Audlem and North Shropshire, I had no idea that a proposal had been submitted let alone that we have until 6th June to register any objection.

"You can find out more by looking up planning application no. 08/00831/EIA. A website explaining why the wind farm is a bad idea can be found at www.vortex.uk.net (The website link that was here no longer works)

"Besides the inevitable decrease in house valuation for any property where the turbines will be visible, one important point that I'd like to add to the debate is that my, albeit limited, research suggests that wind farms are not commercially viable without huge state subsidies. And I believe that it's because of these attractive state subsidies that private companies actually want to build them rather than because this type of green energy is a commercially viable product. In other words, we are being driven by a purely commercial rather than 'green' agenda."
