It's been quite a year for Hankelow. The village wins Cheshire Community of the Year; residents achieve much of what was in their recent Parish Plan with a new speed limit and, we hear, are making good progress on getting a continuous footpath between Hankelow and Audlem.

Last night saw the hugely welcome return of the White Lion. Hankelow has a pub again! The White Lion closed some five years ago and then became an Indian restaurant operating under three different names.

The White Lion signage went up again just days ago and last night saw the lights back on and many enjoying its hospitality. Judging by the Chatbox, it's a very welcome return. Grandad Dooler says: "Great night at a packed White Lion Hankelow last night. Wonderful atmosphere, welcoming hosts, a log fire and very pleasant surroundings.

"All this rounded off with traditional carols beautifully delivered by Audlem Voices. Altogether a brilliant start to a new chapter in the history of the White Lion."

Lawman makes a plea to all: "Just back from first night at The White Lion very busy and a nice buzz! Hope people support the new Pub in the area it is the only way they will stay open!" while Zofo adds: "On our way back from Chester we saw the lights on in the White Lion and called in. Friendly welcome from the staff and had a few drinks."

Audlem Online would have been there too but for other commitments but wish the new licensees well and hope they will keep us in touch with events and news.
