This is the text from a flyer being delivered to all Hankelow residents by the "Save Our White Lion" action group.
After years of neglect and the threat of demolition The White Lion, which has survived for more than 200 years, has been rescued from the brink of extinction!
As from the 14th September 2018 the White Lion site has become the property of "The White Lion Community Pub Hankelow Limited". This Company has been formed by the generous donations of 34 investors drawn mainly from the village and local area. Their donations will be converted into shares in the near future.
The Company intends to repair, refurbish and reopen the White Lion as a community pub which will not only operate as a traditional village pub but also serve as a centre for other community services, activities and groups.
The next stage is to begin a further phase of fund raising to meet the costs of the repair and restoration work. The Company is in discussion with a potential major investor with a view to securing a complementary development on part of the site which will help to offset these costs. The possibility of obtaining community grants will also be explored.
It is not possible at this time to set a reopening date for the White Lion. This will depend on the success of fund raising ventures and the programme of building work to be followed. The good news is that the Lion has been saved and is on the road to
recovery.
If you are able in any way to help us raise funds and restore the pub then please get in touch. We are happy to meet with you and discuss the options.
The Directors.
