While both your nervous & muscular systems play roles in your flexibility, the nervous system is far more important as it decides how far muscles can stretch before triggering protective reflexes. Research suggests flexibility is less about the physical length of muscles & more about the brain's perception of safety & control over movement. With consistent practice, our brains can learn to trust us in greater ranges!

I have been geeking out learning how to unlock the power of the nervous system at workshops this year. Based on client enjoyment of arm nerve drills practiced in our summer courses, this autumn I will share exercises to connect & warm-up your leg nerves to improve your movement.

An amazing thing about Pilates is the exercises-by-design have encouraged a healthy nervous system to boost flexibility & mobility since its inception over 100 years ago.
