After what many believe to have been a disastrous period this year of mis-management at Audlem's most famous business, the Shroppie Fly, the canal-side pub is now under new management and a refurbishment is promised for the Autumn.

AudlemOnline has been in touch with Punch Taverns seeking confirmation of the changes. Punch say: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Tim Joudrey from Stella Inns. He is an exceptional operator with his quality service standards. Looking at the success of his other Punch sites, we have every confidence that he can take the Shroppie Fly from strength to strength. We will also be investing £240,000 into the pub and refurbishment work is planned to start in October 2013."

Tim Joudrey of Stella Inns says: "We are so pleased that this opportunity has arisen for Punch and ourselves to work together once more at such a fantastic venue. Our Flagship pub The Two Lifeboats in Sheringham is an ideal model to roll out to the Shroppie fly.

"We are here to please locals and visitors alike and will work closely with everyone in order to help achieve their expectations. We are looking forward to the refurbishment that will give us the opportunity to step up to the mark with this truly wonderful pub."

Good signs

Certainly, the signs of an improvement at the Shroppie have been immediate. The outdoor tables have been freshly painted this past weekend and there is an illustration of the planned refurbishment posted outside the pub. All will be keeping their fingers crossed but it does appear that, at last, the immediate past-problems are over.
