Welcome Back!

Welcome back to school for our new half term together; I hope you all had a wonderful half term holiday. It was lovely to welcome all of the children back this week with the beautiful 'carpet' of Autumn leaves on the playground and to see the new learning starting in each classroom.

On Monday, staff from our school and ABC completed further training on Read Write Inc, our approach to teaching reading and spelling in school as part of our INSET day. This was a great opportunity for the EYFS team to work with ABC on this as well as a chance for us to look at how the success of our use of this approach across Key Stage 1 and EYFS can be used to further develop spelling in Key Stage 2 as part of our School Development Plan this year.

On Tuesday morning Cheshire East Reflects visited Ruby Class to share a fascinating range of World War One artefacts with the children linked to their topic work. The objects were on loan from the Imperial War Museum in Salford. The children drew and wrote about some of the objects, and had to think about how the object was used, and who might have used it. The visit provided the children with a wonderful 'hands on' opportunity to handle artefacts and ask questions.

Children from Year 1 and 2 attended a Sportshall Athletics event at South Cheshire College on Tuesday. They thoroughly enjoyed representing school and were proud to demonstrate their athletic skills. They were challenged to achieve their personal bests against the clock and all did a wonderful job – well done!

Our Year 6 children have been busy selling poppies in school this week ahead of Remembrance Day today. This year we have also been supporting the British Legion by selling wristbands, colour pencils and other poppy products – which have sold like hot cakes! Well done to Elsie May Cottrell who made some wonderful crochet poppies to sell alongside the British Legion items and raised a fabulous £72.
Children across school paused to remember in school this morning as we all stopped to focus on the bravery, sacrifice, suffering and resulting peace members of the forces, both past and present, have given for us. Thank you to Mr Davies for leading us in our act of remembrance in his role as a member of the Nantwich and District Branch of the British Legion.

Our busy School Parliament has planned a themed day on Friday 18th November to support Children in Need – a letter is being sent home in school bags about this today – please look out for it.
This week's Praise Book children are:
Mrs Maughan's Class – Freddie Latham
Mrs Hayward's Class – Esme Hetherington Doyle
Mrs Richardson's and Mrs Burgess' Class – James Brennan
Mr Perry's Class – Toby Nettleton
Mr Davies' Class – Harry Huntbach
Mrs Stoker's Class – Jem Sheppard
Mrs Bird's Class – Lucy Huntbach
Congratulations to you all!
Tidy Team -The winning class this week is Sapphire – well done!
The winners of our Attendance Cup this week are Emerald and Pearl classes – well done!
School Dinner Menu – We will be serving week 2 menu next week
Prayers to Share this week – We pray for any families who are coping with illness at this time.
We begin our new half term with four new Team Captains. Lucy Huntbach (Lime), Evie Byrne (Oak), Lily Grange (Rowan) and Lizzie Edwards (Alder) are our new Year 6 Captains. I am sure they will do a terrific job leading their teams and that all of the children will be trying hard to earn points for their teams this term. Good luck everyone! Good luck to our football team who are playing in the South Cheshire Shield Cup today. I am sure they will represent school wonderfully.

FASA
Thank you for all of the donations sent in for the FASA stall at the Big Switch On as part of our Non Uniform Day yesterday. The FASA team will be busy once again, manning their Tombola stall under the Buttermarket at Big Switch On – do please support them if you can.
A huge thank you to all of you who bought Christmas cards and gifts from the children's design work which FASA recently organised in school. Thanks also to FASA for organising this so well.

ABC Childcare
ABC held their Open Morning this morning and welcomed visitors to their wonderful facilities for Pre School. Children from ABC's Pre School also joined Amethyst class for their Roundabout Worship in class yesterday; they were very excited to take part in this and will be joining EYFS for more of these assemblies across the year. ABC's after school clubs this half term are: Monday – Arts and Crafts, Tuesday – Indoor Sports, Wednesday – Magic Show, Thursday – Cooking, Friday- Yoga. Call ABC on 01270 748081 or 07786 985 110 to book a place. avies and our

eSafety Champions Parent Information Session for Parents
As part of our One World – Anti Bullying Week in school next week, PCSO Nick Jarvis, Mr Davies and our eSafety Champions will be holding a Parent Information Session on Wednesday 16th November from 2.3-pm – 3pm. The purpose of this session will be to share with parents and carers a range of ways of keeping children safe online. I hope many of you will join us for this important update.

Kitchen and Mid Day Update
I am delighted to inform you that Mrs Hayward, our School Cook, has been promoted by Cheshire East Catering to take on a Quality Assurance role across school kitchens in Cheshire East. This is a fantastic achievement and recognition of Mrs Hayward's skills and talents. We will of course be very sorry to lose Mrs Hayward from our schoolbut I am sure you join with me in congratulating her on this wonderful news and wish her every success in her new role.
Mrs Hayward will be leaving school next Thursday but before she goes she will be working alongside our new cook, Mrs Robinson-Cartlidge to hand over the role. Mrs Robinson-Cartlidge is an experienced School Cook and we welcome her to our school team.
We have also welcomed Mrs Spibey to our Mid Day Assistant team this week who joins our Mid Day team to care for children each lunch time.

Cold Weather Alert
There has been a real chill in the air over the last few days and we have had to remind a number of children about the importance of wearing coats and jumpers to keep them warm outside. Please ensure your child/ren have jumpers and coats with them each day so they can enjoy outdoor break times whilst remaining warm. Thank you.

Gritting at School
As the weather gets colder, I would like to draw your attention to our gritting plan for school in the event of icy weather. Our Caretaker, Mrs Naden, will grit identified pathways on such days and parents and children must only use these routes for their own safety. There will be a gritted path from the main gate to the main entrance but this is for vehicle access only. Pedestrians must use the gritted footpath along the side of the car park and, for safety, access this through the small gate NOT the car park gate. There will also be a gritted pathway around the perimeter of the main building up to the Highfield Drive entrance. Please note the Heathfield Road playground entrance gate will remain locked on these occasions.
Thank you for your support with this.

Healthy Snacks and Lunch Boxes
Can I remind all families of our healthy eating policy in school. Please ensure any snacks from home are fruit only – no chocolate bars or crisps please. We also encourage all children to eat healthily at lunchtimes and we ask that parents support us with this when sending packed lunches into school.

Safety at the Beginning and End of the School Day
I would like to remind all parents and carers that children must be supervised once collected from school staff at the end of the school day and before being dropped off each morning. Children are NOT allowed onto the school field, trim trails or climbing frames before or after school. Thank you for your support in ensuring these safety guidelines are adhered to.

Finally
I met with the Chair and Secretary of Parent Forum to set the agenda for our next meeting this week. Agendas will be sent out to all families next week, please send all slips, and any comments about agenda items you wish to contribute to the meeting, into school by Friday 18th November. I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting which takes place on Wednesday 23rd November from 9.00am – 10.00am (refreshments available from 8.45am).
