







Unlocking the power of Occupational Therapy
This week (Nov 3rd-7th has been designated as Occupational Therapy Week by Cheshire East – with a public roadshow starting the week at Macclesfield!
However, there are good tips available online and ways to seek help, covering:-
There are a range of local services which can support you in getting around the house, by fitting items like handrails or better lighting in your home. This equipment can help reduce the risk of falling.
Major adaptations such as stairlifts are available from a range of companies. You can also apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant from Cheshire East Council to get financial help. However, you must meet the criteria in order to qualify.
If you are over state pension age or have a disability, the Council's Care and Repair service can provide advice on the repairs and adaptations to your home.
If you need help to move around and manage everyday tasks, you may wish to request an Occupational Therapy Assessment from the Council. The Occupational Therapist will talk to you about your situation, look at activities you are struggling with and look at ways of making things easier and safer for you. They can also provide you with suitable equipment.
If you are an adult, you can contact Adult Social Care to discuss your care and support needs. Your discussion may result in us arranging an occupational therapy assessment in your home.
Equipment prescribed following an assessment is delivered and maintained by Ross Care in Cheshire East and Cheshire West under the Integrated Community Equipment Service.
Assistive Technology can be used to alert someone, like a family member, that you need help. This might be because you've had a fall. It can also provide a range of other support should as reminders about taking medication.
If you are unsteady on your feet, you may be at greater risk of falling. Falls are the most common death from injury in those over 65. The falls prevention pages contain useful tips on how to stay safe, both inside and outside the home.
