Hopefully you will all have noticed that we have finally finished planting throughout the village and its only appropriate that the Audlem in Bloom (and ADAS) Committee say a big thank you to all the volunteers.
We have been delighted by the response to our appeal for volunteers to help with community gardening. As ever the local residents of Audlem have turned up and mucked in. Giving up their weekends to help dig out old plants, old soil, refill beds with top soil and then planting up the new permanent beds.
It involved a significant amount of effort to remove the woody and overgrown plants but once again the villagers of Audlem turned up trumps and put in a massive effort to get the work done.
A big thank you to Phil, Dave, Pat, Stuart (aka Axeman!), Joe, Sue, Andrew, Carolyn and Liz (apologies if I have missed anyone but you know who you are!).
Once we had finally finished the permanent beds we asked for that little bit of extra help to get the village ready for summer bedding plants. Once again we were not disappointed and had a good turnout to help removing the pansies and tulips (a lot of which were recycled by villagers!) and preparing the tubs, troughs and seasonal beds for planting.
We were delighted when 20 Beavers, Brownies, Cubs, Guides and Scouts arrived on a sunny Sunday morning to plant various seasonal plants including Salvias, Surfinia, Bacup, Labilia, Euphorbia, Garda and Nemsia.
It was a fabulous turnout and we stormed through the planting and the clearing up ... well done to you all and thanks to your leaders and parents for their help too.
We must also thank Jo and Allan at the Lord Combermere for the refreshments during the weekends of work as well as storing plants and tubs at various times. Also a big thanks to Couch and Alison of Icon Landscaping, Dylan Jones, Kirk, Bev and James Shentons for their help with removing and disposing of old soil and plants. Thanks also to John Jenkins of Wollerton Old Hall Nursery for his kind donation.
A final thanks must be made to Michael Haines who has worked so hard to source and grow on a huge amount of plants for the permanent beds. His knowledge has also been invaluable when selecting and sourcing the seasonal planting including pansies and tulips as well as the current displays.
We will be having weeding weekends throughout the summer months. If you would like to help please get in touch via adas.contact@gmail.com or ring Bryony on 811705.
A final thanks to all our volunteers, young and not as young, and to the AIB & ADAS Committee members – without your support and effort, Audlem would not be Blooming!
Bryony Nixon
