Thoughts on NHS

As many readers will know, I have been in a battle with cancer for five years or more. Despite paying for new experimental drugs, the latest scan brought bad news, I was clearly entering the final stage of the battle and the end result was clear.

It was time to call our Macmillan contact and everything swung into action like clockwork. A hospital bed arrived at home, loads of other useful equipment, and nurses arrived every day plus home GP visits.

Since this started a week ago, everyone has been caring, smiling and positive.

Our experience over five years, whether from hospitals to other NHS services, has been so positive, I wanted to take this opportunity to say publicly how good the NHS has been for us.

All this in contrast to what appears almost nightly on the BBC News at 6.00pm. It seems like two different worlds.

It is almost thirteen years sine John Gunstone and I set up AudlemOnline. We have been delighted by its success which has led to John now running a successful business. For me, it has given me immense job satisfaction. I am so glad it continues in the safe hands of the editorial team.

This will almost certainly be the last of many articles from me. Thank for your interest and keep reading what is one of the best local websites around.
