This wonderful piece by our very own ADCA poet has been brought to you via the marvels of modern technology.

Handwritten on a handy piece of parchment using a quill pen, put into an envelope, left outside her front door for collection by a lycra-clad ADCA volunteer on a penny-farthing bicycle and then sent by pigeon post to Madeley Towers for typing up on an old Remington, which luckily happened to be connected by a thin piece of copper wire to a....
Computer!!!!

And then via the miracle of the internet to AudlemOnline.

This is not a poem – I just needed to write something!

"Ain't Life a Ball When You are Over Seventy"

I find it rather good to be lazy! (No choice at the moment)
Get up each morning whenever it suits – then eat what I fancy (Providing there's plenty in the pantry)

Have a cuppa later, tea, coffee or hot choc – with a Jaffa Cake or 2
Maybe a drop of Tia Maria (My Favourite) -depends on my mood.
But – who wants to do any of these delights -
When we're "confined to barracks"?

Friends and family are obliged to stay outside,
Keeping their distance when they come "a calling"
It doesn't seem fair! Groceries and other necessities must be delivered and left on the doorstep – to be picked up later – followed by another vigorous hand wash!
My phone and my mobile are a saving grace
I seem to spend a good part of my day – talking?
The outside world brought indoors, for a while!

Not many folk had helplines during W.W. II
So our neighbours were always ready for a chat
Over the garden fence or while waiting in a queue!
Queuing was a good place to gather wartime news and fears! The wireless gave us news each day too.

This fear we have with us now, is a virus, it is silent stealthy and dangerous
But it packs the same fear as wartime – A fear of the unknown.

God willing, we will carry on as before
And be thankful.
